A Marriage Made In Heaven

You guys! You have 24 hours to get yourself to Pizzeria Libretto, either location, by whatever means you can. Through tomorrow, their featured pizza is a collaboration with one of my other neighbourhood faves, Porchetta & Co. You heard me. Pizza. Porchetta. Perfection.

I've written here before about Porchetta & Co, which gives you a good idea of the meat element of this pizza. Libretto has been in the hood just over two years now, and they're still having hour-plus waits to get a table during the dinner rush. That should tell you something. They're also one of a small handful of North American establishments to be certified by the Vera Pizza Napoletana Association as real Neapolitan pizza. The crust is a soft, blistered, chewy bit of loveliness, with a sauce of San Marzano tomatoes and using Fiore di Latte mozzarella. It all comes together with locally sourced toppings to make an extraordinary slice.

Now, about this marriage. In addition to the delicious slices of porchetta and bits of crackling, there's rapini, roasted garlic, preserved chili and truffle oil. I opted for a drizzle of the chili oil that came with my take-out order, and would definitely recommend that. At some point during devouring the pizza, I may have let out a little moan. I've enjoyed many a pizza at Libretto. This may just be the best I've had yet. The way the bits of crackling mated with the chewy crust was more than a bit of alright. Seriously delicious.

The special is available, as I mentioned, through tomorrow (Thursday) for both lunch and dinner. You can dine in or take out at the 221 Ossington or 550 Danforth location, and I urge you to. Because if you talk to your friends on the weekend and they've had it and you haven't, you're gonna kick yourself. And I just want you to be happy.
