yam frites

Yesterday was not a good eating day for me. I was definitely in lazy mode. I woke up late - around noon. After a long shower, I made a cup of coffee, and then had to run out to go to my friend Amy's place. There, I had a few tiny shortbread cookies, tea, and tore off a small piece of french bread.

I got home around 5:30 and snacked on some crackers, then saw that Connie and Todd were going to the Rivoli later, so made plans to meet up with them. With those two, the evening was sure to be full of hilarity.

By the time 9:30 rolled around, hunger had set in in earnest and was screaming out for some sweet potato fries, or as Todd called them, yam frites. (I'm now embarking on a campaign to make this the preferred nomenclature for this perfect little snack. Pass it on.)

Connie and I were more than a little disconcerted when my frites showed up within a minute of my ordering them. Our server seemed gobsmacked too. They were definitely still fresh - you could feel the heat radiating off of them - so I threw caution to the wind and dug in.

These particular yam frites were well seasoned and flavourful, but a bit thick cut for my taste. At that size, they definitely don't get a chance to crisp up the way a shoestring cut would. Still, at about $5, the serving was big enough to fill me, and they were definitely tasty.

If anyone has Toronto yam frites recommendations, I'd love to hear about them.
