An Apple A Day

baked apples

It was a good night for cooking. Both items I made tonight were super quick and easy. I'll start with dessert.

All I did was slice up two apples - Braeburns in this case - and layered them in alternating directions in a lightly buttered pyrex dish. On each layer, I placed a tiny nib of butter on each slice, then sprinkled the layer with ground cinnamon and sugar. Then I popped the dish in a 350°F oven for 30 minutes.

I also did a syrup with the juices. I added a shot of tequila (the only booze I've got in the house!), a splash of vanilla, and a few grates of fresh nutmeg. Cook that until the liquor cooks off and the syrup starts to thicken enough to coat the spoon.

Thanks to Alanna for the inspiration. It was delish! Tune in tomorrow for the main.
